What are freckles

Freckles are circular spots that are usually the size of a head of a pin. Spots may develop across the skin, especially after repeated exposure to sunlight and they usually appear in the upper part of the body, such as the cheeks, nose, shoulders and arms. They can appear even in young children age of 1 or 2 years old. Most blotches on a person’s skin are usually a uniform color. Freckles may vary in color but are usually reddish, yellow or brown. They tend to become darker after sun exposure and revert to their original color during winter months. Also, they tend to fade as people age.

What kind of freckles are there

There are two basic types of freckles:
  • Simple freckles and
  • Freckles due to sunburn

  • Use a hat when exposed to sunlight
  • Wear clothing which cover several parts of the body (shirts, long sleeves, long pants)
  • Avoid sun exposure during hours 11 am to 4 pm
